If you’re planning a trip to the Gulf, two destinations probably come to mind: Dubai in the UAE and Doha in Qatar. Both are exciting, modern, and full of things to see and do.
But when it comes to getting a visa, the process isn’t quite the same.
UAE Visa Process

- Most travelers are required to apply in advance for a tourist visa. However, some citizens can obtain UAE visas on arrival.
- Applications are usually done through airlines (Emirates, Etihad, Flydubai, Air Arabia) or licensed travel agencies.
- Required documents: passport copy, passport photo, flight booking, hotel booking, passport cover photo, among other documents.
- Processing time: 2–5 working days.
- Cost: AED 740 (≈ QAR 730 or USD 200) for a 30-day visa.
- Extra caution: Authorities have become stricter, especially with applicants from countries that previously had high overstay cases.
The UAE visa is manageable but requires more paperwork, and sometimes even guarantees (like a cash deposit with your agent).
Qatar Visa Process

- Qatar has made it much easier for tourists.
- Many travelers can apply directly online via the Hayya platform.
- Required documents: passport copy, passport photo, confirmed hotel booking or host invitation, and flight ticket.
- Processing time: often 24–48 hours – Very fast and efficient
- Cost: QAR 110 (≈ AED 113 or USD 30) for a tourist visa.
- Hassle-free: No need for agency deposits or lengthy approvals.
Qatar definitely wins for ease, speed, and cost of the visa. It’s one of the most straightforward Gulf visas to get.
