UAE Visa Approval and Rejection Reasons for Kenyans Explained

If you’ve applied for a UAE visa recently, you may have noticed that approvals are not as smooth as they used to be.

A few years ago, getting a Dubai tourist visa felt almost automatic. There is a time I applied for a visa for my wife and me, and got it in less than 24 hours.

But now, many Kenyans are facing rejections, and it can be frustrating when you’ve already booked flights or planned your trip.

Luckily, Kenya is not among the countries blacklisted by the UAE for 2026.

For instance, Uganda is on the list, meaning its citizens will not be able to apply for a visit or work visa.

For Kenyans, the UAE is simply applying stricter scrutiny to each application rather than stopping visa processing altogether.

So, why is this happening?

The truth is, some Kenyans have been abusing visa rules. Overstaying after the visa expired, and working without permits. These cases have made UAE authorities more cautious with Kenyan applications.

Instead of just rubber-stamping every tourist visa, they now want stronger guarantees that you’ll follow the rules. For example:

  • Travel agencies may require a cash deposit or guarantee before they process your visa.
  • Authorities may request additional employment or financial details to confirm that you can fund your trip before you travel or upon arrival at an airport in the UAE.

Main reasons UAE visas get rejected for Kenyans:

  1. Overstay history – More or less ‘punishing’ Kenyan citizens because of the track record of other citizens of overstaying.
  2. Mismatch of details – Wrong passport details, inconsistent info, or fake bookings.
  3. Suspicion of illegal work plans – If they believe you intend to job-hunt without the right visa.
  4. Lack of clear travel purpose – No proper hotel booking, return ticket, or funds.

What can you do to improve your chances?

  • Apply through trusted agencies or airlines like Emirates/Etihad/Flydubai.
  • Ensure your documents are consistent (names, dates, passport details).
  • Provide proof of ties to Kenya (job letter, business registration, return ticket).
  • Avoid last-minute applications.
  • Have a decent amount of money in an account to show you can sustain yourself in the country. Could be as high as $4,000.

Bottom line: The UAE isn’t closing its doors to Kenyans—it’s just being stricter. If you’re genuine about visiting for tourism, shopping, or business, prepare your paperwork well, and you’ll still get your visa approved.
