Introduction
Here is how I have planned this layover. You’ve arrived at DXB, and want to explore the busiest airport in the world. You probably have some carryon luggage that you do not want to walk with, so we’ll have to keep it somewhere.
After that, you will hit some activities, get the adrenaline going so that hunger strikes leading to you getting some amazing foods and trying different cuisines.
After that, you will relax for a spa and maybe get some rest in a sleeping pod or hotel. And as we head to take our next flight, we will pass through a few Duty Free shops.
So let’s begin.
Layovers in DXB are normally in Terminal 3 (T3), especially if you are using Emirates Airlines. If you are transiting using a different airline, you might have to go to either Terminal 1 (T1) or Terminal 2 (T2). There are shuttles available to transfer you from one terminal to another. You can also opt to use a taxi.
However, if you have a long layover of 24 hours or even 48 hours, you can get a Free UAE Transit Visa that will allow you to leave the airport and head over to the city.
Where Can I Keep my Luggage at DXB?
You can temporarily store your bags in Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 at the DXB. In Terminal 3, the prices range between AED 35 and AED 40 depending on the size of the luggage. See the table below for comparisons.
Terminal 3 | Terminal 1 |
AED 35 – AED 40 for 12 hours or less for standard-sized luggage (maximum dimensions of 21 by 24 by 11 inches) | AED 40 – AED 50 for 12 hours or less for standard-sized luggage (maximum dimensions of 21 by 24 by 11 inches) |
There is an additional fee of about AED 10 – 40 for every extra 12 hours | There is an additional fee of about AED 20 – 50 for every extra 12 hours |
There are two offices that provide these services, the Dnata Baggage Services and the Emirates Left Luggage. Here are the differences between the two.
Dnata Baggage Services:
- Prices are cheaper than Emirates Left Luggage
- They are located near Boots Pharmacy and Etisalat on the Arrival level
- Luggage can be stored for a maximum of 28 days
Emirates Left Luggage
- They are more expensive
- They are located near Exit 1 on the Arrival level, behind Boots Pharmacy
- Luggage can be stored for a maximum of 30 days
Important things to note
- Prices are charged in AED
- Luggage is stored at the owners risk
- Terminal 2 does not offer these services
Rest and Relaxation
You might have had a long flight or you’re just tired. Well, DXB is not all about adventure. There are three ways I would recommend when it comes to getting that down time:
- Sleep ‘n Fly Pod: For a quick nap, consider the Sleep ‘n Fly Pod located in Terminal 3. It’s a cozy and private space to catch some Z’s before continuing your journey.
- Dubai International Hotel: If you prefer a more traditional hotel experience, the Dubai International Hotel offers comfortable accommodations and convenient access to the airport.
- Getting a massage. There are a variety of spas that you can book including, BeRelax (Terminal 1), Timeless Spa (Terminal 3) and XpresSPa (Terminal 3)
It’s time to EAT!
Before we head over for some retail therapy, its good that we fuel our bodies. Food is at the heart of every trip, so what better way to spend your time at DXB than exploring some amazing cuisines.
I will list the food options into 3 categories, namely, fast food, casual dining and cafes:

Retail Therapy
While DXB is a shopper’s dream, remember this is not your final destination. Exercise restraint especially if you’re on a budget.
P.S. You’ll love this article on the best time to visit Dubai if you are on a budget.
The temptation of duty-free shopping can be strong, but consider saving your spending for the destination you’re ultimately heading to.
However, that does not stop me from buying a few Toblerone bars, because, why not. I often find myself buying a lot of candy from the airport as opposed to buying fragrances, electronics or drinks.
With that said, not everyone is on a budget trip so let us look at some of the places where you can leave your money:
As I did with the food section, I will also categorize this part into 3, namely, Luxury stores, Supermarkets, and DXB duty free shops.
Luxury Shops:
- Gucci – Terminal 3
- Chanel – Terminal 3
- Jo Malone – Terminal 3
- PANGAIA – Their first store is at the Dubai International Airport – Terminal 3
- Adidas Store – Terminal 3
- Ferragamo – Terminal 3
Supermarkets
- Carrefour
- Spinneys
Dubai Duty Free Shops
- Gold and Jewelry – Terminal 1 and 3
- Fashion – Terminal 1 and 3
- Watches – – Terminal 1,2, and 3
- Electronics – – Terminal 1 and 3
