Cover passport - The Dubai Nomad

Hey The Dubai Nomad family.

I’ve got an important update regarding UAE visa applications.

The UAE immigration office has introduced a new rule: you must now include a clear, high-quality photo (or scan) of the outer cover page of your passport with your visa application.

What exactly is the “passport cover page”?

That means the front exterior of your passport, the part that shows the country name, emblem, often the word “passport”, and the coloration/design. It’s not the bio-data page (the page with your personal details and photo), but the stiff cover itself.

Why are they doing this?

  1. Verify nationality easily
Sometimes, the nationality or issuing country isn’t obvious from the inner pages (especially when type settings are small or passports look a bit aged). The cover gives a quick visual cue to immigration officers.
  2. Prevent misrepresentation or fraud
Occasionally, some applicants might give the wrong nationality or use confusing/inconsistent documents. Having the cover page helps authorities cross-check and spot red flags early.
  3. Ensure completeness and reduce back-and-forths
When applications are missing pages or unclear, processing slows down, or worse, applications get rejected. This extra piece helps reduce ambiguity.

What you should do

  • Before submitting, take a clear, straight-on photo or scan of your passport cover. No blurry edges, no shadows.
  • Make sure it’s legible; the country name, emblem, and colors should be clear.
  • Combine it with your usual documents: bio-page copy, passport-size photo, flight ticket, hotel booking, etc. (these are still required).

Watch-outs & tips

  • Don’t forget: this is a new requirement as of September 2025, so if you’re using older visa guides or templates, they might omit this.
  • If your application gets rejected or delayed, one of the reasons can be “missing required documentation,” which could be the cover page
  • Some travel agents and visa centers are already asking for it proactively.
