This year’s International Women’s Day (IWD) is centered around the theme “Accelerate Action”.
IWD is observed annually on the 8th of March, a day to recognize the achievements of women worldwide.

- Enhanced Government Representation: The establishment of the Ministry of Family and the appointment of Sana bint Mohammed Suhail as Minister of Family demonstrates a commitment to women’s representation.
- National Policy for Women’s Health: The launch of this policy ensures comprehensive healthcare services for women throughout their lives.
- Economic Empowerment: Mandating female representation on private company boards and initiatives like the Women’s Economic Empowerment Program are strengthening women’s economic roles.
- Legal and Social Advancements: Emirati women enjoy equal pay, increased presence in key sectors like space and science, and have made history with first female judges and prosecutors.

Dubai’s Celebrations and Opportunities
Dubai can never be left behind when it comes to celebrations and with that there are events and offers to celebrate IWD. The Women’s Pavilion is hosting “Her Impact, Our Future,” a suhoor evening honoring women trailblazers, in partnership with Skills3 and the UN.

Celebrating Expat and Digital Nomad Women
Expat and digital nomad women in Dubai should also not go unnoticed as they are integral to the city’s diverse community. They bring unique skills, perspectives, and experiences that contribute to Dubai’s growth.
With Dubai’s total population reaching approximately 3.84 million, and the female population accounting for roughly 1.21 million (over 40% of the population) of which more than 80% is made up of expats, a significant portion of those women are expatriates, contributing to the cities diverse make up. While there is a gender imbalance in Dubai, the contributions of the expat women are very important to the cities continued growth.
