Introduction
The United Kingdom is among the countries that visit Dubai the most.
In fact, it is usually either the third or the fourth country of origin with the most visitors to the United Arab Emirates.
Some of the reasons for this include:
- An already existing large community of British expats
- Its reputation for safety compared to the UK
- It has better weather than the gloomy UK
- And of course the power of the Pound in the UAE
However, this article is not about that. We want to find out how long a flight from the United Kingdom, specifically, London takes to the United Arab Emirates.
How Long is a Flight From London to Dubai?
The flight from London to the UAE and vice versa is considered a long-haul flight as it is over 6 hours.
Whether you are flying from Heathrow, Gatwick or Stansted, the flight time using Emirates is about 6 hrs and 55 min.
However, the return Emirates flight time, that is, from Dubai to London is different. The flight time varies from 7 hrs 30 min to 8 hrs, depending on the time and the London Airport you are arriving at.
Why is the flight time different? Some of the reason for the flight time of London to Dubai being different from Dubai to London include:
- Wind – Flights flying from West to East (London to Dubai) have a tailwind, while flights from East to West often face headwinds which increases the flight time. A tailwind is wind blowing in the direction of travel.
- Another reason is flight path. The flight path sometimes differs. The airline may use a different path they used when flying to Dubai
When flying to Abu Dhabi using Etihad Airways, the time is similar, taking about 6 hrs 50 min.
Just as with Emirates, the return flight is longer, and is about 8 hrs long.
